How Long????

So just curious...How long are your ultrasounds and who gives them? I have always LOVED my doctor! She is upbeat and funny...(as funny as you can get with an OB :) Anyway, I have lots of friends who see the same doctor as I or a doctor in her practice. We began to talk and I always wondered how long their ultrasounds were and who gave them...considering I had a few "minor" scares when pregnant with Mason and now this lil one! I always felt like we were "In and Out" when it came to have our ultrasounds. AND...my doctor doesn't even give them. They have an ultrasound tech give them...even if something is wrong! My doctor doesn't even get the Doppler out and listen to the heartbeat...her nurse does it!! Anyways, my ultrasounds on average have been ONLY 7 minutes!!!!! I thought these practices were all normal and just the way things were done, but after talking to others who have OTHER doctors seem to get more personal treatment and in depth ultrasounds!!! I know this is late in the game to be questioning this now, but I was just wondering who "in other areas" get the same prenatal services I do and who gets different!! Am I crazy for thinking that my doc should "do more" when it comes to ultrasounds?!?

Hey! Ok, well at my OB, an ultrasound tech does all of the ultrasounds, even if there could be a problem. My OB does, however, listen to the heartbeat with the doppler at every visit. Oh, and as for length of ultrasounds ... SHORT. I would say about like yours ... 7-10 minutes-ish. But even when I've been to the perinatologist, the ultrasounds were SO QUICK ... oh yeah, and they also cost $975 (for a 15-minute appointment!!!!!!)

My doctor always did the doppler listening herself, but that took only a few seconds. She only did one ultrasound herself and that was at 11 weeks because she couldn't hear the heartbeat. She sent me to a different doctor in the same office for ultrasounds and those appointments took about 15-20 minutes. A tech would do the first part for about 7-10 minutes, then the doc would come in a look again for about 7-10 more minutes. The 20 week appointment took much longer because they took more measurements then than at any other time. That's also when they make everyone at our office wait for the sex of the baby. Yikes, I'm glad I never saw any of the bills for these things. I had to go twice a week the last 5 weeks for non-stress tests and with my insurance, the whole deal appointments, hospital, delivery and all cost us $300. The only bill I ever even saw was the hospital bill, so I don't even know what they charge for those things. Wow! Scarey!

in our situation we were actually sent to a specialist for ultrasounds. So when we arrives that is all we were there for....he usually spent 25 to 30 minutes and it was the specialist dr. The one time I had a vaginal sono with my dr he did it and it lasted about 10 minutes

My doctor did most of the ultra sounds at first, that is because of what happened with L though. Later in the game the nurse did them and then the doppler too. I would say 10 mins avg time but I know what you mean. We should all get longer ones :). Can't wait to meet that baby girl and see you so soon!

Hi there...We have a sonographer at the doc's office that is awesome. After the doc checks things out and listens to the heartbeat, we go into another room for the sonogram. Ours were between 15 mintues and 45 minutes...just depending how busy the office is at that time! Then, my doc usually comes back in to tell me everything looks great or to look at something that may seem questionable! ...We eneded up having to have an extra one and it is SUPER expensive!!!!
